The field season is officially finished. We went out for one last scan this morning. No FEGs, sadly. We had a Los Lagos region record number of Surfbirds - another shorebird that breeds in the Arctic. I felt pretty proud to pick out a single Red Knot from the group to show G. Other highlights included lots of sea anemones, dolphins in close to tide line, and a dog running back to dry shore, with its owner, proudly carrying a large fish in its mouth.
It started to rain at the end of the scan so instead of heading to another nearby National Park (and getting very wet) we headed back to the hotel. The rest of the day consisted of packing and running errands - you can’t believe how long it takes to do the simplest things here. We celebrated an absolutely amazing field season by going out to a nice dinner - wood-fired pizza!
Less than 24 hrs in country now!
